The\u00a0<strong>Carrick-a-Rede<\/strong>\u00a0suspension bridge is close to my hostel, so I went there to have a look first. The scenery there is beautiful, but <strong>9\u00a3<\/strong> pay to cross a suspension bridge from <strong>20 metres<\/strong> to walk and then another 150-metre trail over a rock, I did not.<br \/><strong>Fishermen<\/strong> used to go over a <strong>suspension bridge that had only one rope<\/strong> to hold on to. They also had to transfer their nets and other equipment piece by piece. De Carrick-a-Rede hangbrug ligt vlakbij mijn hostel, dus ik ging daar eerst een kijkje nemen. De omgeving is er mooi, maar 9\u00a3 betalen om over een hangbruggetje van 20 meter te wandelen en dan nog eens een paadje van 150 meter over een rots, heb ik niet gedaan. Vissers gingen vroeger over een hangbrug die maar \u00e9\u00e9n touw had om je aan vast te houden. Hun netten en ander materiaal moesten ze ook stuk per stuk overbrengen. After the long bike ride yesterday, I went to eat in a pub because all I had left was a tin of soup and some bread, which I found rather minuscule after a hard 89km ride.<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Bushmills, I immediately included the\u00a0<b style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-size: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-size ); font-style: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-style ); letter-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-text-letter-spacing ); text-transform: var( --e-global-typography-text-text-transform ); text-decoration: var( --e-global-typography-text-text-decoration ); text-align: var(--text-align);\">Bushmills Whiskey\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-size: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-size ); font-style: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-style ); letter-spacing: var( --e-global-typography-text-letter-spacing ); text-transform: var( --e-global-typography-text-text-transform ); text-decoration: var( --e-global-typography-text-text-decoration ); text-align: var(--text-align);\">visited distillery, the oldest in Ireland. Interesting. They mature the whiskey in casks that previously held Bourbon, Port, Sherry or Madeira wine. So the walls of those casks are imbued with those flavours and impart them to the whiskey. It was not to be. By the time I set off on my bike, it had poured over, and by the time I was well and truly at the columns, it started raining. Which in turn made scrambling over the wet rocks just a little more exciting....<\/p><p>The\u00a0<strong>basalt columns<\/strong>\u00a0were formed due to a volcanic eruption 60 million years ago. Of course, the visitor centre was closed at this late hour, so I can't write a more extensive story about its origins right now.
