Not just any street name, half a kilometre from their home is indeed a monument with an Irish Cross.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"margin-right: 0cm; margin-left: 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; caret-color: #000000; color: #000000; letter-spacing: normal; margin-top: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13pt; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; color: #2c2c28;\">Since during my cycling trip around Ireland and the UK, the Celts with their standing stones and subsequent Celtic-inspired early Christianity with its Irish crosses were one of my writing topics, I walked there unpacked in the morning.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"margin-right: 0cm; margin-left: 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; caret-color: #000000; color: #000000; letter-spacing: normal; margin-top: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13pt; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; color: #2c2c28;\">The cross stands there in memory of <strong>The battle of Lafelt<\/strong>. Which took place on 2 July <strong>1747<\/strong> under the <strong>Austrian War of Succession<\/strong> and lasted a single day. The stakes were Maastricht and the hills around it. The ruffs were, on the one hand, the <strong>French and the Irish<\/strong>, on the other hand, the 'allies' with the <strong>English, Austrians and Statesmen (Dutch).<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p style=\"margin-right: 0cm; margin-left: 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; caret-color: #000000; color: #000000; letter-spacing: normal; margin-top: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13pt; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; color: #2c2c28;\">The Irish were not particularly French-minded, but all those who were enemies of the hated English were their friends.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"margin-right: 0cm; margin-left: 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; caret-color: #000000; color: #000000; letter-spacing: normal; margin-top: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13pt; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; color: #2c2c28;\">Lafelt was the <strong>epicentre of the battle<\/strong>. The fierce Irishman managed with some <strong>storm attacks<\/strong> drive a wedge between the Allied lines and the <strong>Allied supreme command decided to withdraw<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"margin-right: 0cm; margin-left: 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; caret-color: #000000; color: #000000; letter-spacing: normal; margin-top: 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-size: 13pt; font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; color: #2c2c28;\">There were probably <strong>5,000 dead and 10,000 injured<\/strong>. Pure madness, but unfortunately something of all times....<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-56b11a5 elementor-widget
