Bike tour 2023: Villa Ducal - Osuna

March 2: Villa Ducal in Osuna
Thursday night I unsuspectingly ended up in Osuna because I had found a cheap hostal there.

What a surprise! Osuna is a beautifully preserved historic town with many baroque gems, picturesque streets with snow-white houses, cosy squares and - very pleasantly - not (yet) overrun by tourists. Actually, I would have been better off ending up here first, after the calm of O Sel Ling get used to the hustle and bustle again, rather than straight into the busy Granada.
Since it only gets dark here around 19:30, I still had time to take a short walk through the old town.

First I passed by the 'Pósito Municipal', a public grain warehouse. Barely 100m from there is the Iglesia Santo Domingo. That one was open and I was able to take a look inside. Again, lots of gold decorations, but still a bit more austere than in other churches.

Then it went a bit uphill, via the Convento de Descalzos to the Monasterio and the Plaza de la Encarnación and the imposing Museo de Arte Sacro on top of the hilltop, from where you could see wide city panoramas. Moreover, during the 'orange hour', the white lime of the houses changed to soft orange.

Behind the museum, I saw the tower of the old 16th-century university, also adorned in soft orange. In the patio hung a handsome poster series promoting organ donation.
When I descended back to the Plaza Mayor in the city centre, it was starting to dusk. Just enough light remained for me to see the town square and the Iglesia/Convento de la Concepción Church (16th century) to photograph.
And then it was time for a hot bite.
