Cycling for Shatsa 2024: Munster

Domplatz Munster

I drove into Munster via the Aasee and sat a good kilometre away right in the centre, with the Cathedral site and behind the corner the St Lambert Church. From there it was another five kilometres or so to the city camping, which is in a suburb, right next to a public swimming pool. It was hot and there were many sunbathers swimming in a canal da tik had to cross.

Sunday morning I first took a walk down the Lamberti church inside, where a subdued wooden statue of Mary of the seven Sorrows caught my eye, as did a contrasting modern artwork by a illuminated trayr (to heaven?).

I then walked on to the Museum of Art and Culture, where I particularly enjoyed the painting department with quite well-known expressionist and contemporary German painters. There also hung an etching of the signing of the Treaty of Munster in 1648.

In the afternoon, I had an appointment at the birthday celebration for the Dalai Lama in Aasee park.

On Monday, I visited the Dom with its unique astronomical timepiece - of which I don't understand much - and wandered around the city some more.
