Cycling for Shatsa 2024: Dharma centre in Braunschweig

Ingang Karma Dechen Ling

28 July: visit to Dhagpo Karma Dechen Ling in Brunswick.

Sunday afternoon I had agreed to meet Christine Bremer to visit her small, beautifully decorated Dharma centre to visit. The temple has a capacity of a maximum of 20 people. That roughly corresponds to the number of members who visit its Sangha (Buddhist community) counts.

Because the space so limited is, the five core members regularly organise meditation courses With well-known Tibetan teachers (Rinpoches) at higher-capacity sites.

Christine first led me through her deep, largely natural-wild garden with a pond, a large aviary with colourful parakeets and two rabbits, and a duck and chicken coop. To look after all these, she has her hands full. On top of that, she has two lovely dogs, Vicky and Siri. She also meditates in the garden, in her personal meditation hut.

In the temple space is joint meditation on Wednesday and Friday evenings and on Sunday mornings. After the Friday meditation, Sanghal members eat together under a pergola in the garden. It is there where, after visiting the temple, Christine treated me to delicious homemade cakes and coffee, along with Sanghal members Mark and Norbert and neighbour Rüdiger, who had also turned up.

Dhagpo Karma Dechen Ling is a nice place to 'be' and unwind. And the name is well chosen: Karma Dechen Ling means "Place of Great Joy“.
